Workshop on Value Chain Mapping

KSBL Circular Plastics Institute (CPI) recently hosted another workshop on ‘Value Chain Mapping and Capacity Building of Pakistani Government Stakeholders to Implement Basel Convention’s Amendments to Enhance Control of the Transboundary Movements of Plastic Waste’. Speakers at the day long training who talked about crucial aspects of the Basel Convention’s amendments included Dr. Zaigham Abbas (Ministry of Climate Change), Jim Puckett (ED & Founder, Basel Action Network – USA), Jameel Asghar Bhatti (President, Solid Waste Management Association) and Dr. Jabir Hussain Syed (Head, Centre for Climate Research & Development).

Shiza Aslam (Research Fellow, CPI-KSBL) gave a presentation on the key findings of the project and the interactive discourse and the contributions made by experts and participants led to a healthy exchange of ideas and global best practices. Also present at the occasion were Dr. Aneel Salman (Chair Economic Security, IPRI), Prof. Dr. Sajid Qamar (Rector, COMSATS University), and Prof. Dr. Habib Bukhari (VC, Kohsar University). The workshop was designed to pave way for better implementation of Basel Convention by analyzing value chains, social networks and public policy, with the aim to unite government stakeholders, policymakers, and experts.

CPI aims to establish an ecosystem for circular economy in Pakistan and the workshop was conducted for stakeholders in Punjab, KPK, GB, and Islamabad, in collaboration with Comsats University, Asia Pacific Network and Engro Polymers Ltd, to develop efficient strategies for plastic waste management and accelerating plastic circularity in Pakistan.
