Study on Shoreline Waste – FACTSHEET

CPI at KSBL conducted a study on shoreline waste and marine debris in Mubarak Village Karachi, and the factors and key drivers behind it. The study entailed first-hand info gathering to understand waste management practices and identify the key contributors to ocean litter.

The results indicated that tourist and fishing activities were the primary sources of marine pollution. Plastic was found to be the most prevalent litter category, with multi-layer packaging and single use bags, fishing nets and ropes, and material in floating docks being common. The study highlighted the urgent need for improved waste management and compliance measures in coastal regions to mitigate marine pollution.
